Bénédicte

Bénédicte is a photographer and a designer. She started dancing when she was only 4 years old (classic, contemporary, modern jazz, …) and was practicing over 10 hours a week during her childhood. Now she uses all these skills as a teacher and is working hard on the pedagogic side of teaching. She is an expert in analyzing momentums and really understands how your body works when you’re dancing. It’s all about « bodyception ». (body & perception)

Laurent

When he was 4 years old, Laurent was not dancing but playing the piano. Since he started to dance swing and blues in 2011, music has always been the center of everything. His other specialty is working on the dynamics between partners. The pedagogic side of being a dance teacher makes total sense to him to because he is a math teacher too in a high school!

Bénédicte & Laurent

Bénédicte and Laurent have been teaching together in Paris since 2017. They put all their love and energy into building the Parisian blues community. Not only by teaching, but also by organizing regular socials. The first edition of their very own blues festival #parismidnightblues was sold out in May 2019 and they are already creating the next one!

They have worked hard together on the pedagogics of their teaching to be able to make people feel comfortable and help them improve at the same time… Better be ready to be pleasantly surprised by these 2!

Lotte

Lotte started dancing Ballet when she was four and since then tried several dance styles such as Modern and Jazz, but it wasn't until she discovered Swing that she got truly hooked on dancing. In the Russian Kitchen in Herräng she fell in love with the Blues. A type of music that makes you wanna go rawrrr...!

Ron

Ron has been acting on stage since he was nine years old. He later got into making Blues and Boogie music, and was playing gigs most weekends in his early twenties. Inspired by dancers coming to his band's performances, he quickly got into dancing Boogie, Lindy, and Blues.

Lotte & Ron

Both Lotte and Ron started teaching in Amsterdam, and later set up Key Town Swing in Leiden, where they teach a wide variety of swing dances. As teachers and as dancers, they mainly focus on connection and being comfortable, on expression and humour, and on creating flow in your dancing. They both take great inspiration from the musical history of Blues dancing, which is a recurring theme in their classes.

Jill

Jill started dancing when she was a child. She is trained in classical ballet, modern jazz and jazz dance, contemporary dance and yoga. She has been teaching these different disciplines for the past years, now sharing her time between her passion for dancing, her work as a contemporary dance producer, a massage therapist and a yoga instructor. She discovered lindy hop and the dances of the jazz/blue era while at University and since then has been performing, teaching and attending numerous workshops around the world. Specifically inspired by the authentic vernacular dancing showed in old movies and the african roots of the dance, Jill is in search for a sense of freedom within the dance. In class her goal is to create a joyful yet challenging and encouraging experience for everyone allowing each dancer to develop their own individuality in their dancing.

Alex

Alex is Benelux vice champion in breakdancing and has been teaching urban dances for over 14 years. Later, Alex discovered old clips such as Hellzapoppin and Spirit Moves, and decided to ongo the never ending journey of studying “oldschool” style of Lindy Hop, blues and Authentic Jazz. For him, originality and authenticity comes from individual expression while remaining true to the dance and its founders. He will jam for hours into the early morning to uptempo Bebop Swing, shaky Mambo and slow Blues. Back in Brussels, he trains with his group, the Old Soulz.

Jill & Alex

Jill & Alex have both been dancing from a very early age, however coming from very different backgrounds: Alex is Benelux vice champion of breakdancing and has taught for over 13 years, whereas Jill came from a prestigious contemporary dance school in Belgium. Having both fallen in love with the old school style of Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz, they focus on individual expression and different perspectives on dance techniques. They’ll challenge you in staying controlled yet uninhibited; leave great individual freedom yet still remain a partnership, to dance the move instead of doing the move. Jill and Alex are very much inspired by the “old clips” showcasing a raw style of jazz and blues dancing. They also very much have at heart to keep on exploring the African roots of the dancing.

Sep

Sep Vermeersch is a versatile swing and jazz dancer based in Gent, Belgium. He’s known for his positive energy and dynamic movement. He started as a ‘spontaneous’ dancer, shakin’ it in bars and at parties. This probably clarifies his unique and musical dancing style. Today, you can find Sep performing, DJing and MCing for different projects. From performing authentic vintage dances with Mind The Beat to burlesque cabaret with Un Coup de Folies. He’s go-go dancing and MC-ing at electronic music festivals like TomorrowLands’ Radio Ultra Modern stage. Together with Leni Denorme, Sep runs LouisLou, the brand behind the extraordinary Upside Down Festival, Big City Blues and LouisLou’s Dance Madness. It is the association that supported GHX to grow and expand it’s quality. Sep teaches the swing-era dances and solo jazz for Ghent finest authentic jazz dance school Crazy Legs. In weekends he travels around the world to teach solo or partnered up, mostly with Alexia Legoueix. He’s valuing more then the dance itself: the music, historical context and the ‘human’ behind all of that. Be ready to be immersed in intense workshops were you will be invited to expand your dancing comfort zone. Come over and Jam! He has competed often with some of these results: 1st place at ‘ultimate best dancer’ at Harlem 2015, Strictly at Lindy Shock 2013, Solo Jazz at ILHC 2018 and Savoy Cup J&J 2018. He was second at solo Blues in ESDC 2015 and first place with Alexia at SnowBall 2017 slow dance contest.
